In service of the Italian-French research base located in Antarctica, we have had the opportunity to provide two water treatment and purification plants.
The purpose of the project was to improve the physiochemical and organoleptic properties of water intended for drinking purposes. The base, for its own application, is fed with water from the forced melting of ice.
It turns out to be a water with a not particularly pleasant taste, with a very low salt content and which, combined with a pH value < 7, makes it potentially corrosive.
Thus the water produced, once stored inside suitable insulated tanks, is sent into the base and from there distributed to the various departments.
For drinking purposes, two water treatment plants have been specifically designed and prepared over the years.

The water treatment consists of the following stages:
- Cartridge filtration with a filtration degree from 5 to 1 micron
- Adsorption on Cullbon cartridge, for the removal of organic micropollutants and improvement of organoleptic properties
- Deacidification and mineralization by Cullmite cartridge, for the increase of salinity and pH value
- UV Sterilization
- Pressure pump
- Electrical control and protection panel
